Jeff’s Triathlon Blog

About Jeff…

I’m Jeff and I’m from Katy (West Houston), Texas.  I started off as a swimmer at age 7.  I swam in high school and played water polo in college.  After college, I needed something to keep me going.  A fraternity brother introduced me to triathlons.  The rest is history.  Or… present… I guess.

I think there are 3 types of triathletes in the world:

1) Recreational – Compete in one or two tri’s just for fun or just to “do it”.
2) Casual - Compete in many triathlons.  Take up the training as a lifestyle, but not too hardcore.  Don’t compete to win, just to compete.  Maybe focusing on personal goals instead of victory.
3) Elites- Men/women who take the sport seriously and are out there to compete.  Triathlon is life.  Eat, Swim, Bike, Run, Eat, Sleep.  Repeat.

I’m a casual triathlete.  I enjoy pushing my body to the limits and challenging myself physically and mentally with triathlons, but I’m not in it for the trophy and I’m not ready to spend 3-4 hours a day, 7 days a week, training and eating super healthy.

Aside from triathlons, I am a homebrewer (some have accused me of becoming a triathlete to stave away the beer gut), a dedicated alumnus of my fraternity, Delta Upsilon, I play softball, watch football and baseball religiously (Texans and Astros… woot) and when I have some free time, I try and spend it with my lovely wife.
